1- What is the function of our skin?

Skin is the largest organ in our body, and there are several important functions, the first primary function is protection as it acts as a barrier against germs and trauma, the second function is regulation as it helps maintain our body temperature, another function is sensation by the nerves in our skin that allow us to feel all sensations, the fourth function is in immunity by protecting us against pathogens, the last function is synthesis by producing vitamin D.

2-What is our skin composition?

Our skin is composed mainly of 3 layers:

  1. Epidermis: The external layer which contains the protective structure, the stratum corneum.
  2. Dermis: A fibrous layer that supports and strengthens the epidermis, housing blood vessels, hair follicles, and sweat glands.
  3. Subcutis(hypodermis): A subcutaneous layer of fat beneath the dermis supplies nutrients, cushions, and insulates the body.
3- What are the types of skin?

Mainly there are four types of skin:

  • Normal: The best skin type, no skin problems, less susceptible to acne and wrinkles, glowy and flexible.
  • Combination: Also called the T zone because it secretes more oils in the forehead, nose, and chin area. However, the cheek area is dry or normal. (we deal with it as oily skin while choosing suitable skincare products)
  • Oily: More susceptible to acne, large pores, and greasy appearance of the face.
  • Dry: Tight skin is free of oils, and fine lines, and more susceptible to wrinkles, normal size of pores, and Rough skin with little moisture.

NOTE: Sensitive skin is considered a characteristic of any skin type.

4-How to determine my skin type?

To start with a true basic skincare routine, you should know your skin type, this will be done by washing your face after waking up in the morning using your suitable cleanser and leaving your skin without moisturizing it for 60 minutes.
